“The impact of this conflict spans three countries – Sudan, South Sudan, and Chad - and has created the world’s largest displacement crisis. Almost a year into the war and we’re seeing no signs that the number of families fleeing across borders will slow.
It is midday in Halbul, in northern South Sudan, and farmer Nyandeng Noon Agany is visibly exhausted as she walks home in the harsh dry season heat, after spending hours harvesting rice.

In Chad, the Executive Director witnessed firsthand how conflict, climate shocks, and high food and fuel costs are pushing millions into acute hunger and malnutrition. Chad hosts the largest refugee population of any country in West and Central Africa and is also gripped by its own rising food insecurity.

“This wheat production project to the tune of USD 75 million financed by the African Development Bank became the heart of production in the critical moment in Sudan. It provided food security, yielding 645,000 metric tonnes of wheat this year, and also became a critical crisis response intervention to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The visit underscores substantial investments in the country from the Governments of France and Germany and their ongoing partnership with the Government of Lao PDR and WFP, particularly focusing on women's empowerment amid deteriorating food security conditions.
