The escalation of military activity in Rafah, southern Gaza, has displaced hundreds of thousands of people, making life even harder for thousands of families who have already been displaced several times

“People are running across the border, wounded, scared, with only their children in their hands and the clothes on their backs. They need safety, security, and humanitarian assistance.

"Switzerland's contribution will help WFP address the immediate needs of the refugees in Syunik and Gegharkunik provinces, enabling us to provide both essential food and much-needed psychosocial support,” said WFP Representative and Country Director in Armenia Nanna Skau.

WFP is concerned about the safety of tens of thousands of people who have become displaced due to the violence in northeast Syria. Since 9 October, large numbers of people have fled the towns of Ras al-Ayn in Hasakeh and Tell Abyad in Raqqa, though some have since returned to their places of origin.

Acute food insecurity is set to increase in magnitude and severity in 18 places, according to the latest Hunger Hotspots report. The report found that many hotspots face growing hunger crises. It highlights the worrying multiplier effect that simultaneous and overlapping shocks are having on acute food insecurity.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is facing one of the world's largest hunger crises. According to the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, an estimated 25.6 million  people  are experiencing crisis and emergency levels of food insecurity, including 5.4 million  in the three eastern provinces of Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu.

Over the past year, WFP’s engineers and partners have been conducting disaster risk reduction activities for cyclone and monsoon preparedness and have steadily improved camp conditions and humanitarian access. Activities focus on improving and establishing roads, strengthening and clearing drains, reinforcing bridges in the camps, and reforestation.

The first WFP food supplies destined for 13,000 people at risk of famine in Sudan’s Darfur have crossed the Adre border from Chad, after it was reopened by the Sudanese authorities following a six-month closure.

MAPUTO – WFP is extremely concerned about the escalating conflict and deteriorating food security situation in Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, where over 300,000 people have fled their homes and villages, abandoning their crops and leaving them completely reliant on humanitarian assistance.

“This is a devastating blow to the Rohingya and an equally devastating blow to the humanitarian community,” said Domenico Scalpelli, WFP Country Director in Bangladesh.
