Betelhem Endalkachew, known informally as 'Betty' , joined the WFP Ethiopia Country Office as an engineer in 2013. She previously worked in building design and hotel construction. She has spent the past 12 years working on engineering projects including security upgrades for WFP compounds and offices.

Edita Horrell is the first Lithuanian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest. She joined WFP in 2010 and has been deployed to countries including Haiti, the Philippines, South Sudan, Chad and the Central African Republic. She was mountaineering during earthquakes in both Nepal and Ecuador, and both times stayed to assist WFP’s emergency response.

When Udaya Sharma joined WFP 14 years ago, he began monitoring the impact of school meals that he himself had received as a child growing up in Bhutan.

As an immediate response in the aftermath of the Beirut blast, WFP allocated food parcels to families and communal kitchens in the blast-stricken area and brought into Lebanon 12,500 metric tons of wheat flour to support food security after the explosion.

This decentralized evaluation was jointly commissioned by a consortium of partners comprising the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Secretariat, Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Landell Mills and the World Food Programme (WFP) and covered the period March 2017 to March 2022.

Due to protracted funding shortfalls, WFP has already been forced to cut rations for 750,000 registered refugees living in 22 camps and five sites in hosting communities in Afar, Amhara, Benishangul-Gumuz, Gambella, Somali and Tigray regions of Ethiopia.
