Rwanda, home to 13.7 million people, has achieved positive development outcomes in poverty reduction, gender equality, environmental sustainability, education and public health through economic growth and structural reforms.
At the current level of funding for the calendar year, WFP lacks the resources to provide food assistance to a total of 750,000 people who are in urgent need.
The evaluation assessed WFP’s relevance, strategic positioning and coherence; its contribution to outcomes; its efficiency in implementation; and the factors explaining its performance.
In addition to the monetary increase, WFP has included fortified rice in its food assistance since the beginning of this year. Locally procured and fortified, this rice has significantly higher nutritional value than regular rice, containing essential vitamins and micronutrients critical to people’s health and wellbeing.
The 45 million Canadian dollars contribution will provide a stable, long-term source of funding for WFP’s school feeding programmes, including home-grown school meals.
WFP‘s focus is on strengthening and supporting the Government‘s efforts to deliver equitable and inclusive economic growth and advance human capital development.
“Without additional fuel supplies, bakeries working with WFP will no longer be able to produce bread. Only two of our contracted bakeries have fuel to produce bread at the moment and tomorrow there might be none,” said WFP Representative in Palestine Samer Abdeljaber.
