  • In the fourth quarter of 2024, food inflation in Timor-Leste declined significantly, reaching 0.1 percent in December, twelve percentage points lower than the same period last year. 
  • The average retail price of imported rice remained stable throughout the year, with an average price of US$0.76/kg, unchanged from December 2023. 
  • The cost of the basic food basket in December 2024 was recorded at US$0.99-/person/ day, reflecting a 2 percent decrease from the previous quarter (US$ 1.02 in September 2024) due to lower prices of chicken, onions, and eggs, and an 8 percent lower compared to the previous year (US$1.09 in December 2023) driven by fluctuations in key food prices, except for rice, which remained unchanged.
