The food basket cost in contracted markets increased from TRY 196 in June to TRY 213 in September 2021. While summer season has opportunities for the beneficiaries to generate income through agricultural work, the purchasing power decreased due to high inflation rates.
The annual inflation rate in Q3 2021 is 20 percent as of September 2021, where food inflation rate reached 29 percent. Even though some beneficiaries are able to generate some income through working in the agricultural fields, they struggle to meet their needs. Currently, the transfer value covers 56 percent of the food basket alone; even without taking the non-food item expenses that was supposedly covered by 20 percent of the transfer value.
