In 2024, the Centre of Excellence against Hunger in Brazil took part in major international events focussing on the fight against hunger, organised several study visits within the framework of South-South cooperation, gathered results in the area of food and nutritional security, and had the presence of the winners of the reality TV show ‘Vida de Merendeira’ at a meeting of Portuguese-speaking countries. Among the most important international events, the WFP Centre of Excellence had the honour of representing the UN agencies in Brazil at the launch of the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty during the Social G20 (an initiative that brought civil society organisations together to make recommendations to the G20 group during the Summit, which took place in November in Rio de Janeiro).
The year 2024 was also very special in terms of promoting policies to combat hunger through technical co-operation, a central objective of the Centre of Excellence. Initiatives that the Centre has been following - and providing technical support over time - show concrete results that change lives.
