The task of mainstreaming protection and accountability to affected populations has no single blueprint and can take many forms; each situation and context is unique. WFP and partners will always need to conduct a protection analysis of each situation – in consultation with affected communities themselves – to agree on the best strategies. WFP is committed to mainstream protection principles through its food and nutrition security programmes, and to contribute to broader protection outcomes by reducing risks in the areas where it works.
This Handbook aims to build a common understanding of protection and accountability, and guides personnel to better engage with communities to understand, address and mitigate the risks they face through WFP operations.
