JERUSALEM – As fighting escalates in the south and centre of Gaza, the toll on civilians is devastating, and the continued hostile operating environment make it near-impossible for humanitarian operations to deliver desperately needed food aid, warned WFP’s Deputy Executive Director, Carl Skau as he today concluded a two day- mission to Gaza.

DHAKA—Starting June 1, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) will partially increase food rations for all Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar camps, raising the entitlement from US$10 to US$11 per person per month. This marks the second increase this year and a step closer to reaching the full ration target of US$12.50 by August.

Kabul – The European Union is allocating an additional EUR 10 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for school feeding activities in Afghanistan. This will allow WFP to expand school feeding into three additional provinces with high levels of food insecurity in primary schools.

Geneva – This week marks five years since Cyclone Idai struck, affecting more than 2 million people across Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe. In fact, on March 12 in the night, Tropical Storm Filippo entered southern Mozambique, Inhassoro district in Inhambane province, with a very strong winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. It exited back into the Mozambique channel on March 13th through Gaza province. So, considering that the region, and the provinces are already affected by El Nino phenomenon, water levels in some basins remained low.

N’DJAMENA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is today warning that life-saving programmes in Chad will grind to a halt in a matter of weeks without urgent funding.
