Korea contributes US$ 300,000 for food assistance to crisis-affected People in Cameroon
Clashes between non-state armed groups and state forces have disrupted livelihoods and markets in the two regions, which are among Cameroon’s most fertile. The crisis has resulted in displacements and rising food insecurity since 2017. An estimated 960,000 people are food insecure in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon, according to the Cadre Harmonise analysis.
“WFP is grateful for the continuous generosity of the Korean Government”, said Wanja Kaaria, Representative and Country Director of WFP Cameroon. “This contribution will enable us provide lifesaving assistance to vulnerable families and to help them rebuild their livelihoods.”
Korea is a key strategic partner supporting WFP in Cameroon, to achieve zero hunger in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.
Cameroon is also dealing with an influx of refugees into its East region following post-electoral violence in the neighbouring Central African Republic (CAR). It is also managing a separate humanitarian crisis in its Far North region that is host to refugees from Northeast Nigeria and internally displaced people driven by violence from cross-border insurgency groups.
