Humanitarian flights to resume in Haiti as WFP continues to deliver food assistance
As WFP does not import food commodities by air, the temporary interruption of services did not affect food supplies and WFP continued to provide life-saving food assistance to Haitians while also working to address root causes of hunger in the country.
Over the weekend, WFP and partners provided a record number of hot meals in a single day to people recently displaced by violence, serving 37,935 hot meals at 26 sites in Port-au-Prince and Arcahaie. So far this year, WFP has provided more than two million hot meals which are - as much as possible - prepared using locally-grown and procured ingredients.
Meanwhile, WFP and partners are also distributing in-kind food assistance to 50,000 people in Croix-de-Bouquets, as part of a plan to assist more than 146,000 people in various neighbourhoods of Port-au-Prince before the end of the month, in addition more than 97,000 people expected to receive cash transfers as part of a social safety net in collaboration with the Fond des Affaires Economiques et Sociales (FAES).
Across the country, WFP - in collaboration with the Ministry of National Education (MENFP) and partners - continues to provide daily school meals to more than 430,000 school children, 70 percent of which are prepared entirely with locally grown ingredients. In partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MAST), WFP also continues to provide social protection assistance to 120,000 Haitians each month.
